Organic Gardening Do’s and Don’ts

Despite the unusual and persistent snowfall in late February, the participants were excited to learn how to garden more effectively, with fewer mistakes and hiccups. They learned about preparation of garden beds, seed selection and germination, plant selection, as well as problem solving and planning in their gardens. They left the workshop feeling a little more empowered and definitely more confident in their ability to create successful and bountiful gardens!

Daffodils, tulips, and much more!

Last November, preschoolers from the Steveston Community Centre helped us plant daffodil and tulip bulbs at Steveston Educational Garden (SEG). In just a few weeks, there will be a show of colour at the SEG; come out and welcome spring.

While you are there, check out other perennials that are about to start their growing season. You will find Hollyhock (Alcea sp.), Lupine (Lupinus sp.), Beebalm (Monarda didyma), Aster, Shasta daisy (Leucanthemum × superbum),  Elephant ears (Ligularia dentata), and shrubs such as mini-climbing roses, Burning bush (Euonymus alatus), and currants.

Wishing you all a great growing season!
